These “adult only” bright green Jello shots are a favorite with our friends. A refreshing tequila treat served in just the right mini size.

On warm summer evenings we invite a few friends over, put on some soft jazz and set out appetizers, finger foods, light bites and cocktails. One request I get every time is to bring Jello shots.
Jello shots sit somewhere between dessert and cocktail — they’re easy to enjoy and have just enough kick from the liquor you use. That’s probably why they’re so popular at grown-up gatherings.
For this batch I made Lime Margarita Jello Shots. They turned out bright, refreshing and full of lime-and-tequila flavor. Everyone loved them, and I plan to take a tray to a friend’s outdoor anniversary party next month.
If you’re hosting an adults-only get-together, make a batch of these and enjoy — and please serve responsibly.

What you’ll need to make these bright green Jello shots…
Ingredients:
- 2 — 3 ounce boxes lime Jello (regular or sugar-free)
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup cold tequila
- Limes for garnish
- Coarse sugar or coarse salt for garnish (optional)
Supplies:
- 2 ounce plastic condiment cups with lids
Directions:
- Boil 1 cup of water. Pour the boiling water into a heatproof bowl or pot and add the two boxes of lime Jello. Stir or whisk until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
- Stir in 1 cup of cold tequila until well combined.
- Place the plastic cups on a rimmed baking sheet or platter for stability. Pour the Jello mixture into a large heatproof measuring cup or use the pot if it has a spout, then fill each cup about three-quarters full. You should have about 12 servings.
- Chill the cups, uncovered, in the refrigerator for at least 2–3 hours, or until the Jello is completely set.
- To garnish, wet the rim of each cup with a lime wedge, a dab of agave or corn syrup, or just water, then dip the rim into coarse sugar or salt on a small plate. Turn the cup upright and rest a lime wedge on the rim before serving.
Enjoy these refreshing lime margarita shots!

At our last gathering I served several small bites along with the Jello shots. One favorite was a layered baked pizza dip — cheesy, savory and perfect with crackers or bread.
