Experience a taste of Phoenix, Arizona and the surrounding area with some of my favorite foodie hot spots! Don’t miss Bink’s Midtown, Talavera, the Chocolate Tour of Scottsdale and more.

Phoenix is a surprising culinary destination in the heart of the desert. During a recent week-long visit I sampled a variety of restaurants and shops that celebrate fresh, locally sourced ingredients and creative flavors. This selection highlights five memorable stops that offer a sample of the region’s food scene—each spot brings its own character, from casual neighborhood restaurants to elegant resort dining and sweet local bakeries.
Here are five recommended spots to experience a taste of Phoenix:
(1) Bink’s Midtown
Bink’s Midtown is a standout for its consistently fresh, flavorful food and relaxed atmosphere. Located centrally, the restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating and a menu driven by seasonal ingredients. Every dish I’ve tried has been excellent—favorites include the made-to-order mozzarella, grilled dates, and the roast beef sandwich. The menu’s variety means there’s something for everyone, and the simple, well-executed flavors keep you coming back to try more. If you visit Phoenix and only have time for one restaurant, Bink’s Midtown is a top choice.

(2) Talavera Restaurant
Talavera, at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North, offers refined dining with stunning valley views from its outdoor patio. The kitchen emphasizes locally sourced ingredients and seasonal preparations. I experienced the restaurant through a chef-for-a-day program that offered insight into ingredient sourcing and menu development. The tasting menu is an excellent way to enjoy a range of flavors, and the desserts—crafted by the executive pastry chef—are not to be missed.

(3) Sweet treats at Liberty Market
Liberty Market in Gilbert is a charming spot known for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but it particularly shines for its desserts. After a meal in downtown Gilbert, stop by for cookie sandwiches, donuts and espresso. The bakery items are made with care and provide a sweet finish to a day of exploring the East Valley.

(4) Virtu Honest Craft
Virtu Honest Craft captures the best qualities of neighborhood dining: intimate, relaxed, and inventive. The menu often features small plates ideal for sharing, and it rotates with the seasons to showcase fresh, local produce and proteins. Both the bar offerings and the regular menu are thoughtfully composed, making it a great place to gather with friends and taste a variety of dishes.

(5) Chocolate Tour of Scottsdale
The Chocolate Tour of Scottsdale is a delightful way to spend an afternoon sampling chocolate in many forms—truffles, cupcakes, ice cream and more. The tour includes local chocolatiers such as a Belgian shop known for Liege waffles, and it pairs tasty samples with stories about Scottsdale’s culinary scene. Chocolate enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy, and even a shorter visit to a few stops on the tour is well worth the time.

Other notable spots to consider include True Food Kitchen, Lon’s at the Hermosa Inn, Vincent’s on Camelback and Postino East Wine Café—each offers a distinct take on Arizona dining. If you have a favorite Phoenix-area restaurant or shop, share it so it can be visited on a future trip.
