I love using oversized art as a focal point on walls in our home. When you’re faced with a blank wall and unsure what to do, a simple solution is to install one large piece of artwork rather than a crowded gallery. A single, oversized piece creates a cleaner, more elevated look.
We had a huge blank wall in our dining room and solved it by hanging an oversized, framed print. It’s the first thing guests see when they enter, so I wanted it to complement the rest of the house and feel cohesive.
Earlier this spring I completed a full dining room makeover as part of the One Room Challenge. Now that the reveal is finished, I wanted to share details about the oversized piece, where it was framed, the cost, and how quickly it arrived—everything I was asked about after posting photos.

Our Dining Room Art Goals
My goal was simple: one oversized piece with clean lines that wouldn’t compete with the wallpaper and trim. With bold wallpaper and architectural details in the room, lots of small pictures would feel busy. I wanted a single, large focal point so the space could breathe.
The Before

Finding Oversized Art
I prefer frames with clean, minimal profiles—nothing ornate or chunky. While searching for options I found exactly the look I wanted on Minted. Their framing choices and website navigation made it easy to narrow selections without feeling overwhelmed.

For the dining room we selected “Days in Paris,” a Paris architecture print by Jessica Nugent, from Minted’s rotating limited edition collection. The muted palette complements the bold navy wallpaper without competing with it, and the subject felt meaningful since we’re hoping to book a trip to Paris this fall.
After measuring the space, I ordered the largest size Minted offered for that print: 54″ x 40″. When you’re deciding on scale, mark the dimensions on the wall with painter’s tape and live with it for a few days to ensure the size feels right.
The framed piece cost $668, and shipping and returns were included.

Our Oversized Art In The Dining Room
We ordered on April 27 and the framed print arrived at our house on May 6—ten days from order to delivery for a sizable framed piece, which felt very reasonable.
I admit I opened some of the packaging right away to peek. The print quality was crisp and the muted colors were exactly what I hoped for. The frame was a light wood with a clean profile—just what I wanted.

The back of the frame included hanging “teeth” on both sides designed to sit on hooks in the wall, making the piece straightforward to hang under normal conditions.

Because our frame needed to sit two inches away from the wall to clear the molding, I had my handyman add a small spacer to the back of the frame and a corresponding piece on the wall so the artwork would sit flush with the molding. A small modification solved the issue and now the piece hangs perfectly.

This oversized piece is a real showstopper. Framed art at this scale is an investment, but for the right piece and quality framing I consider it worthwhile.

Oversized Kid’s Art
After this first purchase we ordered two more framed prints from Minted for our boys’ bedrooms. Their children’s art collection is a great resource if you’re looking for larger, kid-friendly prints—many are available in similar clean frames.
We chose the same light wood frame for continuity and scaled the prints to suit each bedroom.
