This beef schnitzel is extra crispy and delicious. With just a few pantry ingredients and simple steps, it delivers restaurant-quality results. Serve with roasted vegetables or a light salad for a complete, satisfying meal.

What Makes This Recipe So Good
- Perfectly crispy and full of flavor. A simple trick in the breading yields an extra-crispy crust when pan-fried.
- Fast and easy to prepare. Coat the steaks in seasoned flour, dip in eggs, then press into panko breadcrumbs. In three straightforward steps and under 20 minutes you’ll have a golden, tender main course.
- Healthier than traditional deep-fried schnitzel. Pan-frying uses far less oil while still producing a deliciously crisp exterior.
Chef’s Tips
- Use thin steaks for the quickest cook time. Steaks pounded or sliced to about 1/4-inch cook in roughly 3–4 minutes per side. Thicker cuts will need a few extra minutes.
- Let cooked schnitzel rest on paper towels. Transfer the steaks to a paper towel–lined plate after frying to absorb excess oil and help retain juiciness.
- Pair it your way. This German-inspired schnitzel is lovely with fresh vegetables for a lighter dinner, or with mashed potatoes and gravy for something heartier.

5 servings
Ingredients
- 5 thin-cut steaks ¼-inch thin
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- salt to taste
- freshly cracked black pepper to taste
- 2 large eggs whisked
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Equipment
- 3 medium bowls
- Large skillet
Instructions
-
Whisk together the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.

-
Dredge each steak in the flour mixture, then dip in the whisked eggs, and press into the panko breadcrumbs to coat. Repeat for all steaks.

-
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, add steaks in a single layer and cook about 4 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Cook remaining steaks in batches, adding more oil if needed. Serve immediately.

Notes
- Make it gluten free: Substitute rice flour for the all-purpose flour and use gluten-free panko breadcrumbs.
